Hi Seb, lovely to hear that you've been so busy! I've been so impressed by your reading as well, keep up the great work! If you can, email me a picture of your finished map and I'll put it on this page so the class can see it :) Miss Whieldon x

Hi Miss Whieldon and all of year 1 I have been keeping myself really busy by playing Maths games on the “The maths Factor” , I’ve been reading the Julian Clary Bolds books and telling my Mummy and Daddy all about them - they are very funny. I’ve also been keeping fit by doing PE with Joe Wicks every day and cosmic yoga plus lost of playing football outside. Today I am going to design a treasure map and hopefully my Mummy and Daddy will be able to find my treasure . Miss you all lots and I can’t wait to see you all again

Miss Atkins(a few years ago)

Hello to the lovely Year 1 class! I hope you are all well and showing mum and dad's just how much energy you have Monday-Friday's! I am missing you all but thanks to the guestbook, I get to read all of the amazing activities you are completing at home. Whilst I imagine some of you have stayed in your pyjamas all day (very jealous), myself, Miss Whieldon and Miss Forrester have been at school with the children whose parents are key workers and have created a very bright and bold display on the gates to our school. If like me and you are going for daily walks with your family, then why not go past school and see what we have been up to? Even better, take a photo of you next to the display and post it on the guestbook so we can all see! I can't wait to see all of your smiley faces - stay safe and keep in touch! Best wishes (from at least a 2 metre distance) Miss Atkins :)

Hi Edie, lovely to hear you've been reading so much, and homemade bread and pizza sounds delicious! I'm sure your rainbow picture is beautiful, and will certainly make anyone walking or driving past your window smile :) love Miss Whieldon x

Edie(a few years ago)

Hi Miss Whieldon, Mrs Wheat and the rest of y1. I have been reading my first chapter book called 'The Twitches Meet a Puppy, Teacup House' and I have almost finished it. I have been reading with my Mummy & Daddy during the days we have been off. I have also played out in the garden with Harry and Betsy, my dog. I have been making homemade bread and pizza with my Daddy. I am completing the work Miss Whieldon gave us and have painted a rainbow picture for my window. I hope you are all ok. Love from Edie

Year 1 School Closure Work

Dear children,

Hi sweeties! It feels like it has been so long since we've all been together, when its only been a few weeks! I miss you all very much, and can't wait for when we can all get together again. I know it must be frustrating at times that you can't go and see your friends or other family, but please know that you are doing something extremely important by staying at home, and when we are back together it will mostly be down to you, my little superheroes! I'm so incredibly proud of you all, and I'm sure your parents are too.

Please get your parents to send me photos and messages by email, I'm missing you all so much and I'd love to see what you've been up to and share your ideas with the rest of the class! If you need any help or more ideas, you know where to find me :)

Sending lots of love to you all,

Miss Whieldon

The BBC has introduced daily lessons with videos and a range of activities for every year group. A week's worth of lessons is available at a time, with three lessons set out for each day; English, Maths and an alternating subject as well. The lessons can be extended or kept short, and are aligned with the National Curriculum. I'd recommend checking them out!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zjpqqp3/year-1-lessons/1

The Oak National Academy has been set up to provide a weekly programme of learning. It is three lessons per day of English, Maths and a Foundation subject. They provide videos of lessons from teachers, and require very little equipment, other than paper and pencils.

DAILY PHONICS/READING

Read a great book, either with your parents or by yourself for at least 10-20 minutes each day. Talk to your parents about the book you have read.

Parents: I've included a list of guided reading questions and phonic sound mats below that you can download and use alongside your child's reading. Please practise reading the sounds, especially phase 4 and 5, and recognising them when reading with your child.

Your child has a personal login for www.activelearnprimary.co.uk which gives you access to a range of allocated books at their appropriate level, which have quizzes embedded in them (click on the BugClub logo on each page) to check comprehension. There are also interactive maths and SPaG games and additional resources to assist with home learning. If you are unsure of your child’s login details, get in touch via our emails and we will be happy to send them out again.

For a weekly list of spellings and SPaG exercises to practise, please see the attached spelling lists and SPaG mats in the document box below.

DAILY ENGLISH

http://bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zjpqqp3/year-1-and-p2-lessons/1

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-1#schedule

The above websites each offer daily English lessons with videos, activities and games. You can use just one or alternate between the two, its completely up to you!

As your child is writing, try to remind them to consistently use clear finger spaces between each word, capital letters at the beginning of sentences and names, and full stops or alternative punctuation at the end of each sentence. They might also need reminding for letters to be written correctly and facing the right way, and to hold their pencil correctly. Small, consistent reminders will make the world of difference!

If your child struggles with finger spaces (as most do at this age!), sometimes using a lollipop stick or another pencil can work as a useful reminder to put after each word while writing. Why not decorate one and turn it into something they really want to use?

DAILY MATHS

http://bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zjpqqp3/year-1-and-p2-lessons/1

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-1#schedule

Follow these links to see a range of 5 lessons per week. Aim for lesson 1 on Monday, lesson 2 on Tuesday etc. Watch the videos first and then have a go at the accompanying worksheets or activities. Each week BBC Bitesize and The National Academy will release a new set of weekly videos and accompanying worksheets/activities, so please check back each week for the next set!

In addition to this, log on to your ActiveLearn account for Abacus interactive maths games that will aid your child with building their fluency of number facts. You can also access The Maths Factor through your account, with online videos, lessons and practice activities.

Watch the link above and use it to help you to retell the story of Pentecost. As this time is seen as the birthday of the church, why not make a birthday card for our church? You could also create a disciple flame headband to help you to retell the story.

Values and Virtues - Our two new virtues for this half-term are Eloquent and Truthful.

Our children are growing to be eloquent and truthful in what they say of themselves, the relations between people, and the world.

We aim to help our pupils grow by developing an eloquent language which pupils can use to understand and articulate their emotions, beliefs, and questions, encouraged by the example of their teachers to be truthful in the way they represent themselves and speak about the world.

Over the next few weeks, try to find opportunities to develop and expand your child's vocabulary; this could be in reading and writing, when taking part in science or D&T, or even when talking and discussing at the dinner table! Give them alternative words to try to use, teach them the proper names for utensils, and encourage them to pick out words they don't recognise in stories and use throughout the week.

RE Secret Mission! - Promises are an important aspect of Pentecost, as Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit. Your mission this week is to promise to do something for your parents, such as calling your grandparents or helping with dinner. Remember though, a promise must be kept!

HOME LEARNING - USEFUL WEBSITES

If you wish to extend your child’s learning, we have a list of some websites we would recommend that offer free home-learning packs for parents. This list will be updated as more are published.

In Twinkl’s case, they are offering a month of free “ultimate” membership to parents educating from home, which would allow you to download thousands of resources, ranging from handwriting, spelling, reading, maths, topic and much more - enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS or PARENTSTWINKLHELPS

DAILY SCHEDULE

A couple of parents said that a daily schedule would be helpful, so I have attached two possible examples. However, please  don't take these as necessary rules to follow; they are merely suggestions of how you could possibly structure your day. I'm sure you are doing an amazing job, and if you have any queries at all, please contact me via email.
