Welcome to

Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

We are working very hard this term in all our subjects. We have been looking at a range of poetry, fiction and non-fiction texts in Literacy, which include Knuffle Bunny, Not a Stick, Billy's Bucket, Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present and The Usbourne Book of Big Machines. In Numeracy we are exploring many areas of the National Curriculum, including mental addition and subtraction, number and place value and problem solving. In RE we are starting our topic on Families and Celebrations, in which we are looking at different celebrations that take place in the church and various stories about celebrations from the Bible, such as the Wedding at Cana.

Our topics for this year are:

Autumn Term: Carnival of the Animals

Spring Term: Changes Within Living Memory

Summer Term: Weather Experts

Have a look at Archie's weather presentation.  He really seems to have the voice for TV!

Carnival of the Animals is based around the music by Saint-Saens. We have listened to the music, identified the different animals portrayed and learnt about the different animal groups. In addition to this, we have also designed our own safari parks and made our own animal masks!Enter text...
